Dear colleagues
We are delighted to announce the third conference of the Association of European Qualitative Researchers in Psychology, to be held at the University Lumière Lyon 2 in Lyon, France, from 8 to 10 July 2026 (https://www.equip2026.inviteo.fr)
Following the association's inaugural conference, which sought to create bridges among qualitative researchers in psychology across Europe - bridges between researchers from different European countries but also bridges between different research traditions of qualitative inquiry in psychology - the Lyon conference will build upon the Milan conference, which proposed to address the following question: "What does qualitative psychological research become in the age of uncertainty?
In Lyon, we propose to explore how qualitative research can contribute to the development of a psychology of and for world-making.
Indeed, the world is undergoing radical transformation in the context of contemporary crises, whether political, ecological, health-related, social or economic. Qualitative research can describe and understand these upheavals, but it also participates in the transformation of the world to a greater or lesser extent. The current crises and the profound changes they are bringing about therefore encourage psychology to embrace qualitative research 'of and for world-making' (Power et al., 2023). In other words, it is crucial to fully develop the potential of qualitative research to help create a fairer and more equitable world. These questions will be addressed at the conference along four lines:
- ethical issues and reflections on the changes to which researchers can contribute
- the circulation of knowledge between participants and researchers
- the challenges of capturing and articulating the content and processes of the phenomena being studied
- the quality of qualitative research.
We look forward to seeing many of you in Lyon in July 2026 !

The conference will be held in the heart of Lyon, a city with a rich historical and cultural heritage, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is reflected in an extremely lively way in the city’s vibrant fabric and its numerous historic buildings from all eras. As a European crossroads, the city itself embodies the promises and tensions of a world in transition. With its dynamic universities, evolving working-class neighbourhoods, and growing ecological commitment, Lyon provides an ideal environment for critical thinking and reflection on societal changes. In addition to the conference, we invite you to explore the city's cobbled streets, renowned gastronomy, and the banks of the Rhône and Saône rivers.
